Having signed up for this program over a year ago, I learned a great deal of information about how things work and why. I'm an administrator over at the forums. I've been helping people out for quite a long time, and I've began to notice that many people ask the same question that was answered the week earlier, so I decided to write a little guide. These are the questions I get asked the most.

- General -

What % will I receive for referring sales?

How does the affiliate program keep track of my customers?
The entire affiliate scheme is set up through the use of cookies. Once a potential client visits your website and views at least one template, even a thumbnail, a cookie with your affiliate information is stored perpetually on their computer. What does this mean? It means that it doesn't matter if they buy a template right then or in a year - you'll still get credit for the sale.

If I'm buying a template through my website, how can I be sure that the information stored in my cookie contains my affiliate information, so I get credit for the sale?
If you aren't sure of the data included in a cookie on your computer, and you want to make sure you get credit for the sale, simply go to http://www.mytemplatestorage.com and type 'javascript:alert(document.cookie)' in the address bar. This will create a pop-up that shows all the information on that page.

Do I need my own website?
Having a website would definitely be a good thing to have. The only other way to use this program without a website is to tell your friends or clients to buy through your affiliate link, which isn't very professional. I would completely recommend having a complete website, dedicated to selling templates.

Will MyTemplateStorage host my site for me?
Nope. You've got to take care of all the hosting costs by yourself. Don't despair - with a good website, you'll make many times more money than you put in.

What is the 'Dynamic interface for invoices'?
The dynamic interface to generate invoices is a great tool. It allows the user to put in their information (Name, Order Number, and Address) and receive a full invoice. Pretty straightforward, but lots of people ask.

Once I generate the code for the templates to be displayed, what do I do next?
Once you've got the code ready, all you have to do is copy and paste it into the code of your own website. You don't need to copy and paste the comments at the beginning or at the end. The comments look like this: <!-- Begin MyTemplateStorage code here -->. You can if you want to - some people prefer to leave these in so that the code of their site is easier to read.

What is an iFrame?
IFrame stands for Inline frame. An inline frame is what is generated by the affiliate javascript code. An iframe is just a frame that is contained inside a page.

- Generating the interface -

How do I change the background colour?
When you are setting the parameters for your script, there is a 'background colour' option. Simply set this to a hex value (ex. #F6F6F6) of your choice.

I have scrollbars. I don't want them.
If you've got scrollbars, it means your frame height and/or width is too small. Try a larger number for the 'Frame Height' and 'Frame Width' parameters.
How do I change the colour of the page numbers?
This can be achieved with the help of a CSS stylesheet. The page numbers are of the class '.link' in a stylesheet, and the current, selected page number uses the class '.current'. Here's an example of what the stylesheet would look like:

I want to display prices in a different currency than USD. How can I do that?
The ability to choose what currency to display prices in is a new one. You can now choose between US and Canadian Dollars, Great Britain Pounds, EuroDollars, and Japanese Yen. This option is available when you are creating any code to display templates.

- Using the custom skin -

What is the custom skin?
The custom skin allows you to have complete control over what is displayed for template thumbnails. This is excellent for making screenshots blend in professionally with your website.

What are the advantages of having one?
As I said before, custom skins give you a great deal of control. Not only do you display the information you want, but it fits the theme of your site so much better, which in turn makes your entire website much more professional.

How do you make one?
All you have to do is create a table and use the predefined variables to display the information you want. Here is a list of all the variables and what they do:

My stylesheet isn't being applied. Help!
Make sure that you have your entire URL for your stylesheet is in the CSS URL field. Remember that the URL isn't relative to the page you're viewing, so you must put in the full URL (ex. http://www.swifttemplates.com/styles.css instead of just styles.css)

- Your commissions -

What option should I choose to be paid?
This really depends on where you live. Many of the people in North America have reported that MoneyBookers has inacceptable service and that there are many hidden service fees. MoneyBookers has been reported to work like a charm in most of Europe, though, so that is a safe bet if you're European.
Wire transfers only work if your bank has a SWIFT code and transfers can be taken directly. You also need over $800 to use this feature, so not many people will have to worry about it. Before using this feature, phone your bank to get all the exact details, because TemplateMonster won't send you your money again if something goes awry.
ACH payments (direct deposit to your bank account) are only available to US residents at this point of time. They seem to be the best choice for American affiliates, and many are saying that they have been pleased with the promptness of their payment. If you are a US resident, I would recommend that you use ACH payment.
In the very near future, MyTemplateStorage will begin to offer payments by means of a check/cheque. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't feel that the above methods of payment are for them.

One of my sales says 'Fraud'? What?
If you notice a sale in your account that has a bold red 'Fraud' next to it, it means that somebody tried to cheat the payment system. This means that since TemplateMonster didn't get any money for the sale, you can't either. Sometimes, fraud sales can magically turn back into sales. This means that the customer was using a different method of payment that had to be confirmed at a later date.

The referrer for one of my sales isn't my site. What happened?
This means that the customer that bought an item first visited your site, got your cookie, and then purchased another template at a different site. Since you were the affiliate that gave them the cookie, you get the commissions.

Can I buy a template with my earned commissions?
Yes. You can buy a template with your commissions here: https://secure.mytemplatestorage.com/personal/get_template.php

- Template Tuning and Site2You -

What's Template Tuning?
Template Tuning is a relatively new site that offers customization of products offered at TemplateMonster.com. They do all the work for you. You can choose to display a 'customize' button on your template preview pages that redirects customers to Template Tuning via your affiliate link. Template Tuning sales are great - I've had a few, averaging around 35-40 dollars each :)

What % commissions do I get for referring people to Template Tuning?
You'll take 25% of the final price. Nice :)

I don't want to have TemplateTuning on my site. How do I get rid of it?
There's an option to display the customization button when you generate your code. Just make sure to uncheck the 'Show customize button' checkbox when generating your affiliate code, and you're good to go.

What is Site2You?
Site2You is a site that lets customers customize their own template through an easy-to-use online interface. Customers buy one template and are asked to specify a username and password to update and maintain the site. Site2You also offers hosting for the websites, or users can pay a one-time flat fee and download the finished product.

What % commissions do I get for referring people to Site2You?
You make a whopping 30% of Site2You sales.

- The supervisor program -

What is the supervisor program?
The affiliate supervisor program is used so that you can have a downline of affiliates. When someone signs up for the affiliate program with your affiliate link, you make money off of them making a sale. Cool, huh?

What % do I get of subaffiliates of me?
You make 25% of any commission that your subaffiliate makes. So, if your subaffiliate made a $50 sale, he gets $10 commission, and you get 25% of that $10. So, 25% of 10 is $2.5. An easier way to work all of this out is that you get 5% total commission on anything sold by your affiliate. As proof, I'll demonstrate: 50 x 5% = 2.5. Wow.

How do I get people to sign up under me?
Simply refer people to mytemplatestorage.com with your affiliate name. This will look like [http://www.mytemplatestorage.com/?aff=indeo]. Another way to refer subaffiliates is to have a form on your website that allows potential affiliates to sign up right from your site. You can download and paste this code from the [Supervisor Interface] in your account.

How many levels of affiliates can I have under me?
You can have one level of affiliates under you. So, if one of your subaffiliates gets his own subaffiliate, you won't get any commissions for his sales.

How long does it take for the subaffiliate to show up in my account after sign up?
After the affiliate signs up, he/she should appear in your account immediately.

How do you delete a subaffiliate?
If you have a bogus subaffiliate that perhaps filled in the application with garbage information, you can get MyTemplateStorage Support Staff to remove it for you (support@mytemplatestorage.com). However, I don't recommend doing this. You might as well keep him/her, because maybe they want to buy a template for themselves, or maybe they will refer their friends to their link.

Can I be my own subaffiliate?
No. This is against the rules. If you are caught doing this, all of the accounts involved will be closed and any unpaid commissions will be forfeit. This is a cheat to the system, and the rest of the affiliates. Please, don't try to get away with this - it won't happen.

- WebAPI -

What is the WebAPI?
The WebAPI (Web Application Programming Interface) is an excellent tool for those who know a web programming language such as PHP, ASP, Perl, Coldfusion, or any other coding form. It allows total customization of the program - you can download all the information, screenshots, etc to your web server and manipulate all the data in any way you please.

Where can I find the documentation?

What programming languages must I use?
Anything. That's the beauty of API's - you can use what language (or pseudo-language) you please.

What are the advantages of using the webAPI?
There are many advantages to using the WebAPI. Here's a short list, that I can think of right now:

• Easier to show the information you want
• The ability to have complete control over all of the data available on TemplateMonster.com
